Tacoma carries a layered history that still shapes the city today. Built through industry and migration, it is also marked by painful chapters, including the forced removal of Chinese residents and decades of segregation that influenced many neighborhoods. Hilltop, once a thriving Black-owned community rich with businesses, leadership, and cultural life, remains a reminder of both resilience and loss as development and displacement reshaped much of what had been built. Tacoma reflects a wide range of racial, cultural, and economic experiences now, yet shared space does not always create shared understanding. Our Tacoma cohort gathers leaders who are willing to engage this story with humility, seeking the heart of God as they listen carefully, honor what has come before, and nurture relationships where deeper understanding and healing can grow over time.
If you are in Tacoma and sense a desire to engage this story with humility and hope, we would welcome a conversation. Please reach out to Chris Hippe to learn more about the Tacoma cohort.
